Keep Australia Beautiful
Keep Australia Beautiful Week is held at the end of August each year, and was developed to remind people about the simple things they can do in their daily lives to reduce their impact on the environment and encourage individual action. Schools can get involved in a number of Keep Australia Beautiful programs. Schools can enter the Young Legends category within the Australian Sustainable Communities Awards consisting of the Tidy Towns, Sustainable Cities and Clean Beaches Awards.
National Wattle Day
# Take a sprig of wattle or something gold and something green to your Mum and/or Dad # Plant wattle trees and shrubs around your school grounds every year # Visit the local Botanic Gardens # Make your own National Wattle Day badge # Paint an old shirt the green and gold of the wattle and wear it on National Wattle Day
National Landcare Week
Landcare Australia is encouraging everyone to become a citizen scientist during Landcare Week. Every Australian can participate in this Landcare Week activity. Simply register with ClimateWatch and you can monitor, collect and record data that will help shape the countrys scientific response to climate change.
Sustainable House Day 2010
Environmental awareness – or being ‘green’ – is great, but putting it into practice around homes is the best contribution you can make to living in harmony with our planet. Walk To Work Day
WHAT IS WALK TO WORK DAY? It is an event to promote regular walking and physical activity. It is an annual, national event in which the community can become involved in a healthy and environmentally friendly activity.

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD)
International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations sanctioned day that aims to promote an understanding of people with disability and encourage support for their dignity, rights and well-being. IDPwD also seeks to increase awareness of the benefits of the integration of people with disability in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. The UN announces a theme for the Day that is based on the goal of full and equal enjoyment of human rights, and participation in society by people with disability. The 2009 theme was "Making the MDGs Inclusive: Empowerment of persons with disabilities and their communities around the world". The 2010 theme will be announced later this year.
International Volunteer Day
International Volunteer Day (IVD) was established by the UN in 1985. IVD is now celebrated worldwide with thousands of volunteers involved in a range of IVD initiatives including clean-up campaigns, conferences, exhibitions, morning teas and many other activities all aimed to highlight the role of volunteers in their communities. There are a number of ways you can get involved in IVD, whether you are a school or an individual.
Coastcare Week
There arecurrently 60,000 Coastcare volunteers in 2,000 Coastcare groups tackling problems like dune erosion, loss of native plants and animals, storm water pollution, weeds and control of human access to sensitive areas. Volunteering in a Coastcare group is an easy, fun and a great way to give back to your community while shaping the future direction of the environment in which you live.
