UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund was created by the UN General Assembly in 1946 to provide humanitarian and development assistance to children and mothers in developing nations. UNICEF's focuses include: immunization, child protection, education of girls, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment and early childhood care.

Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. UNICEF works to provide all children with access to a quality basic education. UNICEF uses a range of innovative programs and initiatives to get all children into school, ensure that they stay there and are equipped with the basic tools they need to succeed in later life. UNICEF works with local and international partners to realise the education and gender equality goals set out in the Millennium Development Goals.

  • Around 115 million children are out of school. Globally, more than 53 per cent of the children out of primary school are girls
  • Day for Change can be celebrated in many ways. For example some schools may have a ‘non-uniform’ day with the theme of Change Clothes for a day and Change Lives forever’.
