When documenting your story, consider how your project addresses these general criteria. The Sustainable Living Challenge will use these general criteria to assess and select our top 20 leading practice projects.


Identifying issues

  • Provides clear definition of an issue or problem
  • Displays thorough understanding of the issue and who it affects
  • Explores a range of potential causes

Investigating sustainability

  • Examines different aspects of sustainability
  • Explores interconnected nature of sustainability issues
  • Demonstrates a holistic understanding of the issue

Exploring solutions

  • Adopts innovative and creative approaches to solutions
  • Adopts an inclusive approach to engaging people in the project
  • Evaluates or appraises project outcomes
  • Integrates with the curriculum (school projects)
  • Commits to ongoing or future actions (school projects)

Communicating your learning

  • Clearly documents different stages in project
  • Articulates learning outcomes
  • Shares learning with others
