Four step program!

by admin last modified 18-03-2008 10:22

To profile your work through the Sustainable Living Challenge, just follow these simple steps.

  1. REGISTER for the Sustainable Living Challenge. Registration enables us to gauge the required level of support, join you to our eNetwork of teachers (SLCnet) as well as follow up with recognition certificates for your students.  You can register online or download a registration form and fax it back.  Once you have registered, you will receive an email with your login details and program information.

Remember, teachers are the point of contact for the program. If more than one teacher is participating from your school, you all need to be individually registered. You do not need to know exactly what your project will involve; we want you to have the freedom to let this evolve over the year.  You are registering participation in the Sustainable Living Challenge as a teacher, not a specific project.

  2. ENGAGE your students in the Sustainable Living Challenge. Explore sustainability and how it relates to your area of teaching. Engage your students in brainstorming ideas for their projects. Guide your students’ reflection on the inquiry process using our project scaffolds. Research new ideas from some of the past projects.

Remember, you do not need to be a sustainability expert and have all the answers - create an open atmosphere of exploration and inquiry that starts with the student’s questions. You can explore some of the resources provided through the SLC News, UNESCO’s 'Teaching and Learning for a Sustainable Future' and consult other teachers through the SLCnet Note the program aims to recognise and profile all sustainability related projects in your school in three scales: individual, group or whole school projects.

  3. PROFILE your project through the Sustainable Living Challenge.  The submission process helps to encourage reflection and guide your documentation. Students and teachers can share their stories by completing our online project submission form, designed to help you reflect on your learning. Project submissions must be provided by the last Friday of October each year.

Remember, the emphasis of this program is on student learning outcomes.  All students are eligible for personalised recognition certificates. Send us a list of your student names with your project submission and we will send out the certificates at the end of Term 4.  Note the online submission process will still provide opportunity for you to upload documentation of key aspects of your project.

  4. CELEBRATE your achievements. Take time in your classroom or at assembly to celebrate your achievements and collective efforts to create a more sustainable future. In December, we will assist our new Sustainable Living Champions to celebrate their achievements within their school community.

Remember, we provide all participants in the Sustainable Living Challenge with personalised recognition certificates.  These are intended to recognise participation at all levels, from students, teachers and members of your broader school community.  Celebrate your participation in your school with all people involved by presenting your project and distributing the Sustainable Living Challenge recognition certificates.
