The judging of the 2008 Sustainable Living Challenge is complete and 13 Sustainable Living Champions were selected from schools across Australia.

The 2008 Sustainable Living Challenge champions are drawn from ACT, NSW, WA, Qld and Tasmania and include entries from individual students, groups and whole school years. We received over 50 submissions from across Australia and the calibre was of a very high standard. Every student who enters the SLC received a certificate of recognition for the dedication and interest in sustainability.

The Sustainable Living Champions developed projects from a wide range of perspectives including looking at climate change, energy and water conservation, environmental health, permaculture, social responsibility and environmental stewardship. They adopted different strategies in their approach including scientific research, sustainable design, community education and action to promote innovate sustainability solutions.

“It is so exciting to see the innovation and originality of thought from students from every area of the curriculum,” the SLC’s National Co-ordinator, Danielle Blenkhorn says.“It is reassuring to know that young people are involved and enthusiastic towards protecting the environment and thinking about the long term consequences of our mark upon this earth.”

UNSW Built Environment is a leading educational institution which fosters teaching and learning about sustainable design practice. The SLC provides an opportunity for the University to contribute substantially to the education and learning development of high school students.
