TUNZA
TUNZA is the United Nations Environment Programme's capacity building strategy for young people and facilitates the development of resources by young people for young people.
In 2003 the University of New South Wales signed a historic agreement with the United Nations Environment Programme to develop ideas and opportunities to progress sustainable development in our region. A key part of this agreement was focusing on the role education can play in fostering sustainable living.
As a result, the Sustainable Living Challenge partnered with the United Nations Environment Programme as a part of its global youth action strategy. "Tunza" is a Kishwahili word that means "to treat with care and affection" and the TUNZA strategy recognises the importance of engaging young people so they are in a position to take action and lead their communities through change.
Through the Sustainable Living Challenge, teachers, their students and their communities will have access to the education resources and networks of the United Nations Environment Programme.
